| | | Let your garden bloom! Find carrot seeds and more here! | myLot Discussions on carrot seeds| A Newbie! | | Well after 5 failed attempts to add a photo I will try this one last time to upload it here. If not I'll send it without the photo and try to add it in a comment. Anyhow, I am trying seed tapes for the first time this year. I have carrots and leaf lettuce tapes. The seeds are so tiny and they never get spaced quite right the regular way so we are trying the tapes this year. There's almost 400 lettuce seeds and 570 carrot seeds. So I'll have plenty. Ever use the seed tapes? Anything you wish to relate about the ease or pitfalls etc here? Please do share your experiences here. P.S. finally it worked. Unreal!!!
As always.....

| | Fall is usually the best time of the year to gather the most. What's availble in | | your area right now?Chokecherries, sumac, Queen Ann's Lace (Wild Carrot) seeds, some blackberries in shady places, some late blueberries, dandelion roots, Jerusalem artichokes, Motherwart, some mints, apples, onions, acorns, currents, grapes, pine nuts (well almost here for them), I'm trying to think of others. Miles away from here, cranberries are available, but not at my house or anywhere near me. | |

| | Carrots, what kind should I plant? | | I have been starting a vegetable garden this Spring and I was thinking about planting some carrots. However, when I went to the store to get some seeds, I was shocked to discover that there are actually several different kind of carrots, and I don't know one from the other. Does anyone here at Mylot know anything about carrots? What is the difference between the types? Is one better tasteing or easier to grow than the others? Does it make a difference or are they all pretty much the same? Can someone tell me what type of carrot seeds I should get. My grandmother used to have babay carrots and they were really good but I always thought that was just about how early you harvested them, not the type of carrot, but maybe I'm wrong. The picture that hoepfully will attach with this discussion shows the type of carrots I would like. Please help. | |
| | My Gram, My world, My Gardener... | | I look back and remember my grandmother fondly. She grew up in an era which many of us could have never imagined. A time wars were newspaper headlines, Green Stamps were used to buy things, rationing was required, bread lines existed, fallout shelters were common, and instead of wearing nylons she had to use a black liner to draw a seam. When I was growing up, I remember that she loved to watch baseball, read Garfield comic strips everyday before work, and lived to feed the squirrels. I spent most of my life with her, as a child, because my Mom was very sick, and my Dad was always working. My parents faced many struggles when I was growing up, and it was ultimately my grandmother who prepared me for my life’s journey. I remember my grandmother’s house on Clinton Way in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Her house was yellow, with a large yard in a corner lot; it was well within walking distance of all the stores and bus lines. My grandmother never drove and was always very busy. I spent most of my time with my Grandmother, or,“ Gram” as I called her and we had many great times talking, both at home, and on the bus.
I remember that in the summer, life for both of us was... | |
| | My Mother, her Oriental Poppies, and the Asparagus Patch | | I was planting carrot seeds last spring and my mother was digging up poppies. I was planting the carrots in rows and had to really focus on where the teeny seeds landed so I knew where to place the next ones... when my mother called to me from across the yard - WAY across the yard - so far across the yard that I had to look up from my work to respond to her.She had worn herself out and wanted me to dig up the rest of the poppies... right now. I'm like "I'm planting carrot seeds over here, do you mind?" So in a snit she digs the rest of them up by herself and kills them all off in her fury. She did the same thing with her asparagus patch... and asparagus patches take years to get established! She wanted me to dig them up and transplant them closer to her house. I refused, pointing out that they obviously liked it where they were, and that they were certain to be unhappy in the shade where she wanted to move them.Well, she didn't take my advice - certainly her prerogative - and in a snit, dug them all up and transplanted them the the shady spot by her back door. Every single one of them died within a few days, maybe a week. Not another asparagus plant anywhere in her... | |
